Savior

“Infinite, and an infant.
Eternal, and yet born of a woman.
Almighty, and yet hanging on a woman’s breast.
Supporting the universe, and yet needing to be carried in a mother’s arms.
King of angels, and yet the reputed son of Joseph.
Heir of all things, and yet the carpenter’s despised son.”

Charles Spurgeon

Michelangelo, Madonna and Child, c. 1525

Blessed Christmas, happy solstice, and joyous holiday to all 🙂

Grace and peace …

Chris, and the same to you! As for this magnificent drawing, I had the privilege of seeing it right before my eyes at the Michelangelo show. I understand totally why it’s one of your favorites 🙂

Grace and Peace to you too, Claudia. Love the drawing. As for the poem, did Joseph really despise the baby Jesus? Merry Christmas.

    • artmodel says:

      Grier,

So good to hear from you! Glad you like the drawing. Regarding the wording of the quote, I believe that Spurgeon meant that the child was despised by others as ‘the carpenter’s son’. Not that Joseph himself despised him.

      Thanks for your comments!
