The 2013 Museworthy Art Show

“Creativity takes courage”
Henri Matisse

In early October I invited the readers of this blog to participate in a second art show. Our first one took place in 2011. This year, artists were asked to create an original work based on one of four modeling photos of me taken by Fred Hatt. For six years I have been known as “the muse of Museworthy”. With this special blog event, that moniker which I hold dear takes on a truer meaning than ever before. One muse, eighteen artist submissions (myself among them) and a marvelous diversity of styles and interpretations. I want to express my sincere thanks to all those who contributed. It is truly my honor to serve as blogger and muse. From my heart to yours, enjoy this celebration of online community, creative expression, and joyful participation.

Pretty dang cool . . . I am gonna be bold here and suggest that this become a yearly event.

    • artmodel says:

You are the official idea man! Just as your suggestion for this show came to life, I think your suggestion for a yearly event might happen as well.

Thanks for your comment and your great drawing!

  2. Bill says:

Really nice! I hope that you’re happy with the results — I think it’s a great way to end the year.

    • artmodel says:

Yes I am happy with the results! A couple of people weren’t able to make a piece on time, which I feel bad about. Hopefully next time they can contribute their work.

I absolutely love your portrait. Thanks for that and for all your support, Bill.

This is a fun art show that all of us artist had a great time and effort doing this I hope we do this again. I hope I am alive to be there for this. Then again I survived cancer for my children. Elaine , you are one bloody great artist and you did a fine job illustrating the person you gave birth to this world. I say this to one parent and grandparent to another. As I said to your lovely muse daughter that she should write a book, I also say that you should include this illustration for the cover. It reminded me of Fred Hatt with the colorful background.
To all the other talented artist more kudos to you and I hope we all can do this fun project again. Claudia you are one great inspiration to us taloented artist and I hope you can inspire us again with more of your creativity.Thabnks luv.

I appreciate your warmth and enthusiasm so very much. I agree that we should do this – or something else similar to this – again in the future. If I am an inspiration to the readers, the readers are an inspiration to me as well. And yes, Mom did a lovely pastel. It’s very much “her” in technique and feeling.

Thanks for your comments and your terrific stylish rendition of two poses!

Hi Claudia, I agree with T.O. and Derek that it should be an annual event. The entries were varied and interesting and some were very good as well. Among those was your collage, which I really liked. What is the gold material you scattered on the surface? Congratulations on the show and thanks to Fred Hatt for the work he contributed with the photos we all worked from – to say nothing of his impressive submission. And then again there was the spark behind the whole thing – the wonderful model who made it all click.

    • artmodel says:

The gold flakes are these powdered pigments:
You can do a lot with them and are really fun to work with! I applied them while the surface was still wet so they would stick. I’m so glad you like my collage!

Thanks for your glowing piece, and thanks also for your wonderful comments. Props to Fred, absolutely. This show couldn’t have happened without him.

  5. Jennifer says:

Wow! Fascinating to see the effects created by different media and approaches – and finishing with your really interesting collage! I shall return to study the images again 🙂

    • artmodel says:

Thank you Jennifer! It’s an interesting, diverse collection. We missed you but hopefully next time! I appreciate your regular comment participation and support very much. You’re a great friend to this blog 🙂

Hope all is well your way.

Great idea and I agree that it should be an annual event. Merry Christmas and a peaceful new year to you Claudia and your readers, from England.

  7. Chris Hajian says:

Claude… As always you attract the most interesting and creative people and I love that you put together this show! Congratulations! It’s Awesome!

    • artmodel says:

My wonderful brother, thank you! Perhaps I should hold a music composition “show”, in which you could rock the house 🙂

Love you, man. Thanks for your comments!

Thanks for putting the show together! You were not only our muse and fellow artist but served as technical expert as well (nice job getting all the links and detail options to work). I assume things slow down as art schools get out for the holidays so I hope you have good and restful times with your extended family. Happy Holidays from Georgia!

    • artmodel says:

Your stunning linocut has impressed many! It also meant a lot to me personally, as you indicated in your email, that you remember my love of prints, and linocuts/woodcuts especially. When I took that printmaking class last year, the lino process was my absolute favorite! Great thanks for submitting such an amazing piece.

Yes, I do have a work slowdown for the holidays. Only two days of modeling booked between now and New Year’s. So I can rest up a bit, hopefully!

Warm holidays wishes to you and your family. All the best 🙂

  9. Derek says:

I would like to comment of the artists’ work and I would say it’s very impressive. I certainly in my case had fun doing the project. All the artists have shown their hearts and souls in doing the project and it became inspiring and creative nature. There are a few artworks that I was impressed. Other than myself, I also love the painting of Mr. Daniel Maidman and Fred Hatt, Mr. David Rockwell, and of course mum Elaine Hajian.
All of you have my respect and admiration for making it a great effort in participating. I had a blast doing it. I worked my own piece for a period of three days. It was a lot of hard work. Not bad for an old bloke like me to survive cancer after battling it for two years. I thought I would never be in this planet again for my children.
Maidman’s work remind me very much like a Modern Renaissance artist as does Fred Hatt and David Rockwell looks very pop artish just like mine. Elaine like Daniel is such a classical artist and captured the essence the grace and the beauty of the woman she had given birth and she drew this piece as in the portrait as a proud mum and this young lady is her greatest accomplishment as an artist and mum. You both have a great relationship with each other as mum and daughter it reminded me of me and Peta, my own Pride and Joy. As an artist she captured the liveliness of what a great muse she turn for inspiration. I wish I can have that technique that she possessed I would love to study that image that she does with the pastels. Daniel is also a classical artist who like Elaine and Fred have a great eye for the arts and very passionate and great work ethic. Fred Hatt also has a great eye for the love of art and knows to collaborate well with this young lady who reminds me of a muse from my past Allison Phillips going back in 1973 when she posed for me in art college. And lastly to our favorite online muse to the lovely Claudia Hajian for inspiring us to be artists again. I also luv your piece and what a great brain you are. A true genius of the arts and a true genius in being creative as a muse for us. I hope I am alive to do this again . This is fun.

David Rockwell is another wonderful talent and very lively. These are the artists that I have been impressed with the artworks and I wish I can talk about every artist but my time is running out other than keep on doing this . Art is true beauty and its good for the soul. God bless you all and be well to each other mates

Such thoughtful and heartfelt commentary! I can’t possibly add anything to it except to say thank you friend 🙂

Blessings and good health to you, always.

Claudia, I’m so happy to see all these interpretations of your image, in so many diverse media and styles! I think you chose the source photos well, because the artists chose among them almost equally. We’re used to seeing you as seen by the artists of the New York ateliers where you work, but you have also cultivated another community – the artists and fans from across the globe that follow Museworthy. Bringing their visions together in a show is the kind of thing that makes Museworthy more than just another blog!

    • artmodel says:

I think I can speak for everyone when I say your photos ROCK! They inspired the artists as much as I did as subject. And I agree I was very happy that people chose fairly evenly among the four choices, which is just another testament to the quality of the selections.

Thank you so much for your comments about Museworthy as a community. I’m very touched that you called this “more than just another blog”. Given that there are thousands upon thousands of blogs out there, that distinction means a great deal, especially coming from a superb fellow blogger like yourself!

Fred, the portrait you did is absolutely amazing. It contains equal parts strength and vulnerability, which is no easy feat for an artist. And I like to think that I am a combination of those seemingly disparate qualities. Not certain that I am, but if I project it then that’s ok with me!

Again, thank you Fred, for everything 🙂

  11. Dave says:

As I said when I sent my drawing in (and as the other submissions proved), I’m a lot better model than artist. But I had a great time drawing you. Thanks so much for putting this show on!

    • artmodel says:

You are not alone in being a better model than artist. We are in the same camp, friend. But hey, you did a really good drawing! I tried to do one myself, but the transfer paper at my work space was too tempting! I didn’t want to pass off a tracing as a drawing. I used the tracing as the basis for my collage. You, on the other hand, did an actual drawing! And a good one.

Thanks so much for participating in the show! I’m honored to have posted a fellow model’s work among the others. And thanks for your comments!

  12. Elaine says:

Claudia, the show and the many wonderful comments is a testament by your readers from all over the world who are inspired by your desire
to foster their own creativity and imagination as an homage to you.
Congratulations to all. Personally as your mother, I am so proud of your achievements. As an artist I can understand the creative process,
You bring to me and fellow artists a never ending desire to express our individuality. Love you

    • artmodel says:

Thanks so much for your sweet comments! Mothers don’t get more supportive and loving than you. You set the bar very high 🙂
I know you were enthusiastic about the Art Show from day one, and your charming, impressionistic pastel is a very special component of this post. I’m sure everyone can see that.

      Love you too!

      • Peta Kylie Tewey says:

        G’day mate
Congratulations on your art show and I enjoyed the talent that you have brought. I don’t normally go to this as often since I am a busy gal and I have my own life. I enjoyed watching these talented artists. I love my dad’s piece he did on you it took him like three or four days to finish it.My dad is awesome I am sorry I never got to do any piece I had been busy with school and work. I also fancied that Maidman chap. And I also think your mummy is awesome that she did you justice on the piece a true classic artist.. More power to you and happy holidays mate
